Butterfly Conservation Europe

Protecting endangered butterflies, moths and their habitats is only possible if information on their distribution, ecology and trend is available and made accessible to nature conservation and decision making organisations.

Distribution data are now available in several countries. At a European scale distribution maps are available in The Distribution Atlas of European Butterflies (see http://www.mapeurbutt.de for more details). In future BCE aims to collect data online in close collaboration with its national member organisations via its new webpage www.butterfly-recording.eu. This is one of the major initial objectives of BC Europe. Information on the Red Data Book of European Butterflies and Prime Butterfly Areas of Europe are downloadable from the data section of this site. Under the umbrella of BC Europe a European wide monitoring network has also been established and we are encouraging regular monitoring specifically in all Prime Butterfly Areas.

Details of these and other main BC Europe projects are listed opposite.
